UFC 266 is on at T Mobile Arena in Las Vegas with a stacked card from top to

bottom. UFC 266 features two world title fights and a rematch between two legends. UFC 266

main event is headlined by Australian featherweight champion Alexander ‘ the great ‘

Volkanovski who is up against previous title challenger Brian ’T city’ Ortega.

Kyrgyzstani-Peruvian Valentina Shevchenko defends her flyweight belt against Lauren Murphy

in the co main. The long awaited return of MMA legend Nick Diaz is also on the card,

rematching former champ Robbie Lawler. Bet U ambassador Dan ‘The Hangman’ Hooker will

also feature on the preliminary card at lightweight. UFC 266 is a card you do not want to miss if

you are a combat sports fan.

UFC 266 predictions & odds

Volkanovski V Ortega

These men were scheduled to fight on the UFC 260 card at Abu Dhabi in March earlier this year

however Volkanovski caught COVID while traveling to the event. In spite of this and In typical

Dana White fashion the UFC decided to have them be opposing coaches for the 29th season of

the Ultimate fighter. Which allowed Volkanovski time to completely recover from COVID and

added fuel to an already tense match-up. It is obvious that after the ‘Ultimate Fighter’ series, the

two fighters do not like each other. Volkanovski claims that Ortega is “fake” and a “spoiled little

brat”. Ortega believes he has gotten under the champion's skin.

Not only is it heating up in the shit talking department both these fighters have an extremely

dangerous level of skill set. Volkanovski strengths include hard hitting Muay Thai, solid

wrestling and a heavy ground and pound. Making him one of the most well rounded fighters in

the UFC. This is Volkanovskis 2nd title defense following the two wars with previous champion

Max Holloway.

This match-up isn’t a walk in the park for Volkanovski, Ortega is no joke and is

in his prime at age 30. He is known for having some of the best Jiu Jitsu in the UFC, receiving

his black belt under BJJ legend Rorion Gracie. Ortega has leveled up his striking game with a

wide array of different attacks, evident in his recent win against title contender the ‘Korean

Zombie’. Both of these fighters have the power to turn their opponents light out, but I do believe

that there is too much respect between these fighters and it will be a chess match going all 5

Prediction: Fight of the night and Volkanovski by points

Got to go with the former 95kg rugby league player Volkansolvski in a decision win. I believe

Volkanovskis work rate and fighting IQ will be enough to keep his belt. This is the closest fight of

the night.

Odds (head to head): Volkanovski : $1.53, Ortega $2.39

Valentina Shevchanko V Lauren Murphy

Valentina Shevchanko returns to defend her flyweight belt against Lauren ‘Lucky’ Murphy.

Shevchenko has never lost in the flyweight division and is on a 7 fight winning streak. If Amanda

Nunes didn’t exist she would be the greatest female fighter of all time in the UFC. Shevchenko

is a taekwondo world champion and has a black belt in Judo. She is confident and comfortable

wherever the fight goes. Her opponent Lauren Murphy is on a 5 fight winning streak but she has

not faced anyone like Shevchenko.

Prediction : Shevchenko by TKO/KO

With all due respect to Murphy it really just depends how tough she is until the fight is over.

Shevchenko is on another level as a fighter and will control the fight from start to end. This

shows in the gambling markets.

Odds:Shevchenko $1.05, Lauren Murphy $8.50

(Add a Shevchenko win to your multis for a laugh).

Nick Diaz v Robbie Lawler

Many in the MMA community are calling this the ‘real main event’.The return of fan favorite Nick

Diaz in his rematch against former welterweight champ Robbie Lawler. Diaz won the last fight

between these two by TKO, 18 years ago. This will be an unusual 5 round fight considering it is

not a main event and has been changed last minute from welterweight to middleweight. Both of

these guys are not in their prime. It really just depends if they have retained their strength,

endurance and wit. Diaz was suspended for 5 years following a ban for marijuana use, he is

known for doing triathlons for fun but also likes to party. Many are questioning how fight ready he

is and if his mindset is strong enough. Diaz is confident, claiming he is ‘more dangerous than

ever’ and doesn’t see how Lawler can beat him. Lawler has been actively fighting the best of the

welterweight division and I believe is the favourite due to this fact.

Prediction : Lawler by decision

A 6 year lay off into a beast like Lawler who has been competing with elite fighters will be too

much for Diaz. I hope Diaz surprises everyone and makes it a war.

Odds: Diaz 2.05 , Robbie Lawler 1.75

Curtis Blaydes v Jairzinho Rozenstruik

UFC boss Dana White has to put a heavyweight fight on a main event. Both of these fighters

have been knocked out by heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou . This will be either

dominated by wrestling or finished with a brutal knockout. Blaydes' strengths are wrestling and

athleticism compared to Rozenstruiks ‘one shot’ power . Both are looking for a highlight

performance to get back in title contention. If Blaydes stays composed and takes Rozenstruk to

the ground with his wrestling, it will be too much for the 115 kg African.

Prediction : Blaydes by decision

I lean with Curtis Blaydes by decision but you never know in the heavyweight division especially

if you have power like Rozentuik. Would not be surprised with a knockout win by

Rozenstruik. Blaydes has a habit of getting clipped when aiming for risky takedowns.

Odds : Blaydes $1.28, Rozentruik 3.50

Jessica Andrade v Cynthia Calvillo

Winner of this will most likely face Shevchenko for the flyweight belt. Andrade is a former

champion and has beaten elite fighters such as strawweight champion Rose Namajunas.

However, she has had trouble moving up to flyweight. Andrade is returning from a brutal

knockout by the co main star Shevchanko. She is the favourite due to her power and intense

pace. MMA personality Brendan Schaub calls her opponent Calvillo , the’ Diaz step sister’ as

she is tough and has high level Jiu-Jitsu. I believe it is also important to note that Calvillo has

never been finished inside the octagon.

Prediction: I see Andrade overwhelming Calvillo with her power and pace winning by

Odds: Andrade $1.13, Calvillo $3.26

Prelim fight to watch :

Dan Hooker v Nasrat Haqparast

New Zealand lightweight and BETU ambassador Dan Hooker will be competing at UFC 266

after visa issues nearly cancelled the contest. Hooker is aiming for redemption after suffering

two losses in a row against the division's best. His opponent Haqparast has plenty to prove as a

hungry 26 year old and is fighting for his mothers legacy who passed away recently. However,

Hooker is still regarded as one of the best in the lightweight division. Hooker only just lost to

Dustin Poirer last year , which was speculated as the ‘2020 fight of the year’. Hooker is still in

the top 10 of the division and a highlight knockout can put him back into title contention.

Prediction: Hooker by TKO

I believe Hooker’s striking and experience will be too much for Haqparast. Haqparast doesn’t

pose as much danger on the ground and will be outclassed on the feet. It’s always an exciting

fight when BetU’s Hooker competes.

Hooker $1.65, Haqparast $ 2.18
